SAEL, drive and automation systems in Ermolli paper mill in Italy
After over 30 years of experience with SAEL – which developed the sectional drives for the three continuous machines, one featuring liquid-cooled technology for energy savings, three calenders, four rewinders, a coating machine, and the DCS (Distributed Control System) that manages pulp preparation, pulpers, energy control for two gas engines, the boiler, and two hydroelectric turbines – Ermolli Paper mill has specifically selected SAEL’s Platform ONE drive and automation system, even for the new rewinder entrusted to De Juliis.
SAEL was chosen by mutual agreement, thanks to its extensive experience in drive and automation systems for rewinders, proven by numerous successful projects with some of the largest and most prestigious paper groups. Once again, the decision was based on the flexibility and scalability of its drive system and the DCS Scalink platform, always integrated into the applications and compatible with future updates for the paper mill.
SAEL high performance is due to the advanced drive control system, where the processor is equipped with all the specialized functions required by the paper industry. These functions ensure high regulation dynamics during machine transients (such as acceleration and deceleration), where maintaining stable paper tension accuracy is crucial. The inclusion of the “mechanical shaft” control in the drive systems completes the offer, ensuring perfection in rewinder technology.
SAEL’s Platform ONE is a Multi Drive system designed with an advanced and modular architecture, making it obsolescence-proof. This means it was conceived to be highly scalable and upgradeable, ensuring its relevance and operational efficiency over time.
Thanks to its flexibility, the system can be adapted and enhanced with the latest technologies, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of the paper industry in the future without requiring a complete replacement. SAEL have drives in paper mills that have been in continuous service for over 50 years, for which we still guarantee repair service and spare parts. Each new drive control board that the company design and manufacture over time is 100% compatible with the previous ones.
The DCS Winder by SAEL, with two 22-inch screens installed on the control desk, will allow the paper mill to efficiently manage the entire machine, providing operators with a new perspective and a dynamic approach to controlling the rewinding process. This setup will enable complete production control, ensuring smooth and optimized operation.
